This is an intermediate wheel throwing course. There will be a total of 8 classes over a span of 8 weeks. Students need to have some experience with throwing either on their own or have taken previous classes. It is preferred that students have no trouble with centering, or wall pulling. This will be more of a project based class, where we will focus on learning each different technique listed below in each class. If desired, bring your own hand towels and aprons.
In this class we will cover:
-making taller, even-walled pieces
-adding throwing designs on the side of our pots
-learning how to control the curve/outward swell of your piece
-bottlenecks and spouts
-how to recover a collapsing or spiraling piece with compression
-the use of calipers
-pulling handles
-the process of reclaim and wedging
-wheel trimming and using a giffin grip
-underglazing and glazing techniques
